On July 2, 2002, the Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project Headquarters began its work simultaneously with the inauguration of Mayor Lee Myung-bak, making some continuous efforts to move forward with the restoration project by strengthening its role. |

Since the beginning of the restoration work for the stream on July 1st, 2003, the Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project Headquarters has coordinated some relevant efforts to achieve a better efficiency and a systematic promotion of the project while being ready for some new needs, including promoting the renewal of the neighborhood, such as Seun Arcade. |

In January 2004, the duty of the Construction Division III, a temporary position made under the Municipal Ordinance Enforcement Regulations concerning Administrative Organization of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, was more clearly defined and the Restoration Project Bureau of the Construction Safety Headquarters was incorporated into the Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project Headquarters, thus being better prepared for an efficient promotion of the project and securing a higher expertise. The duties of the teams under the control of the Restoration Planning Division were readjusted to make them closer to reality. |

Cheonggyecheon Restoration Research Corps |
A temporarily operating wing of the Seoul Development Institute, the Corps had been established in July 2002 to carry out researches regarding basic materials and schemes for a successful completion of the restoration work for the Cheonggyecheon in cooperation with some relevant businesses, universities and government institutions. It is supposed to achieve the research work by June 30th, 2006. |

Major activities |
1. Holding panel discussions The Corps made some efforts to publicize the needs for restoring the Cheonggyecheon by holding a wide variety of panel discussions.
2. Holding seminars and discussion meetings The Corps sought for experts' opinions (on the effects of air pollution on human bodies, restoration work process management plan, and measurement of economic value of environmental factors) at the seminars and discussion meetings held once or twice a month.
3. PR activities The Corps carried out diverse PR activities based upon the results of academic research concerning the work for restoration of the Cheonggyecheon

Major PR activities |
1. A seminar was being held at the Toji Culture Center in Wonju on October 25th and 26th, 2002 on the subject of Opening of New Chapter with Restoration of the Cheonggyecheon, with 444 members of the Citizen's Committee for Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project and nine reporters. |

2. An international symposium cosponsored by the Citizen's Committee, the City of Seoul and the UNEP Korea was being held on the subject of Cheonggyecheon Restoration at the Press Center on November 25th, 2002. At the session, attendees made some presentations on their comparative study of similar cases of restoration of streams flowing through downtown and setting up sustainable urban development strategies in foreign countries. |

3. A public hearing was being held at the Seoul City Officials Training Institute on February 20th, 2003, with 500-plus city councilors, civic committee members, storeowners, and ordinary citizens. |

4. An inspection tour was made to the Sincheon in Daegu and Sanjicheon in Jeju-do on March 7th to 8th, 2003. 16 civic committee members and 7 Seoul City officials attended the tour to the venues designated as some exemplary cases of restoration. 5. A workshop was being held at the Seoul Development Institute on May 27th, 2003, with forty attendees, including 30 civic committee members. |
6. A workshop was being held at the Sokcho City Officials Training Institute on July 11th to 12th, 2003, attended by some civic committee members, some researchers of the Seoul Development Institute, and some relevant Seoul City officials.
7. Institute, and some relevant Seoul City officials. The first explanatory session was being held on July 29th, 2003 to explain about the basic design of the project, with some civic committee members, some Seoul City officials, and some design firm officials attending.
